November 27, 2012, Victoria, BC – The Keg Late Model Series is excited to announce its 2013 schedule at Victoria’s Western Speedway. The Series will stay with the popular Twin 50’s format that worked well in its inaugural season. The dates are May 18th, June 22nd, July 20th and Championship Night on September 21st. The Canada 200 on the Labor Day long weekend will also be a points race for the series.
This year series had 16 drivers take points in 2012, paid out over $21,000 in cash and contingency products, and ended the year with an awards night at The Keg Steakhouse and Bar. Wade Bland was crowned the 2012 Champion as he edged Vancouver’s Jason Terasenko.
In 2013 the $10,000 points fund again will be divided up equally between the top ten in points, with each driver taking home $1,000. To be eligible for the points fund, drivers must compete in all five race night events. In all we hope to pay out over $2000 to $5,000 in cash and contingency prizes in 2013.
The race format will once again consist of group qualifying, heat races and main events.
In an attempt to help offset costs, mainland drivers will be guaranteed $250 per night, in addition to an extra five draws of $100 cash, two $50 heat race wins, $100 fast time award and two Hoosier tires per event night.
In an effort to try and keep the costs from rising, the rules for the 2013 season will stay exactly the same with the exception of the tire rule. The new tire for the 2013 season will be the 2040 Hoosier 10″ slick. There will be a 10 tire maximum rule, 4 tires at the first race, 2 tires per race at the remaining three races.
All of the 2012 series sponsors including title sponsor The Keg Steakhouse and Bar have committed for the 2013 season and are very excited to support the revitalized Late Model program at Western Speedway. In addition to The Keg, associate sponsors OK Tire – Saanichton, Truck Skins – Victoria, J & L Consulting – Jason Terasenko, Kustom Pro Drywall – Bill Smith Jr, LD Racecars – Daryl Crocker, and Steve Copp Construction – Steve Copp have all resigned for 2013.
