November 27, 2012, Victoria, BC – Early Bird Registration for the 2013 Frontrunners Island Race Series is just five days away on December 1. The 32nd running of the series will run from January until April 2013 with eight races ranging from 5-kilometres to a half marathon.

The early registration fee is $120.00. After that until January 13 late registration will be $150.00.

Individuals can also register for the individual races. The eight races comprise the Harriers Pioneer 8K on January 13, Cobble Hill 10K on January 27, Cedar 12K on February 10, Hatley Castle 8k on February 24, Synergy Health Management Bazan Bay 5K on March, Comox Valley RV Half Marathon on March 24, Merville 15K on April 7, and Sooke River 10K on April 21.

“The series races are well organized by eight different running clubs and they welcome all ages and abilities,” says Cathy Noel, President of the Vancouver Island Runners’ Association (VIRA). “We continue to attract new runners and welcome the long time participants coming back.”

“Thanks to our main sponsors – Frontrunners, Adidas, Dairyland, RE/MAX, and Bank of Montreal, we are able to provide electronic timing for all the races, Dairyland chocolate milk at the finish, sprint championships and the miler club,” she adds.

The 100m sprint and miler club awards were first introduced in 2012. A Green Jersey will be awarded to the fastest male and female sprinter over the last 100m for both the under-40 and over-40 age categories. The Milers Club rewards runners with an exclusive custom designed shirt as they reach 500km, 1000km and 1500km milestones during the series.

In 2012 the overall series was won by Sean Chester (Aspire Running) with 840 points. Care Nelson (Frontrunners Athletic Club) won the female open with 834 points. The master’s men was won by Vince Brotherston (Comox Valley Road Runners) with 771 points and the top female master was Nancy Baxendale (Prairie Inn Harriers) with 783 points. The Prairie Inn Harriers, Victoria won the club standings with 4,272 points, followed by Comox Valley Road Runners with 2,761 and Frontrunners Athletic Club with 2,125.
