November 28, 2012, Langford, BC – The Westshore Rebels Football Club, Members of the British Columbia Junior Football League, announced today that Head Coach John Cardilicchia will be relinquishing his role as head coach, and announce that Rebel Alumni and current Defensive Coordinator Scott Mennie will be taking on the Head Coach position.
Cardilicchia has spent an incredible amount of his personal time coaching for the Rebels since 1998, in a variety of different coaching positions. Cardilicchia is stepping down in order to spend more time with his family and further his business. He will continue to work with the Rebels in a limited role.
Cardilicchia is confident that Scott Mennie is ready to make the move to the head coach position “I believe he is the perfect choice, providing he can focus on coaching and recruiting and has the support he needs to run a competitive program.”
Mennie was a Canadian Junior Football League all-star in the 1998 and 1999 season for the Westshore Rebels, and was the CJFL defensive player of the year in 1999. Mennie was drafted in the 4th round (30th overall) by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2005 CFL Canadian draft. Mennie’s professional football career was cut short due to injuries. Scott is excited to take on the challenge of head coach, and feels that his connections within the CIS and CFL will prove to be valuable.
The entire Rebels family would like to give John Cardilicchia a big thank you for all he has done and will continue to do for the organization, and would like to welcome Coach Mennie into his new role.
