December 6, 2012, Victoria, BC – The parking lot at Commonwealth Pool will be jam-packed this weekend as 650 kids and teens from all across Vancouver Island and the rest of BC converge for one of Canada’s largest invitational swim meets. Out of town competitors are already arriving in preparation for the 11th Annual Christmas Cracker hosted by Victoria’s Pacific Coast Swimming.

Heats begin at 8:30am on Friday morning and the last final will run at about 8pm on Sunday night.

“Big meets like these are a great way for young swimmers to get experience at a long, busy meet,” said Mark Lancaster, General Manager of host Pacific Coast Swimming. “It can be a challenge for swimmers to keep their energy up for three days of events, so it is great we are able to host these big meets at Commonwealth Place.” And you never know where this kind of experience will lead–London 2012 bronze medalist Richard Weinberger raced in the Christmas Cracker when he was younger.

While swimming is the main event, the Christmas Cracker is a swim meet with a fun twist–over 1200 crackers will be given out to competitors over the three days, and Santa and the Grinch will be making appearances, too.

The dates and times of the sessions are as follows (end times are approximate):

Heats: 8:30am to 1:30pm

Finals: 5:30pm to 8:30pm
