December 13, 2012, Prince George, B.C. (ISN) – The Cariboo Cougars are set to host their perennial rivals, the Vancouver NorthWest Giants, this weekend in their final weekend series before the Christmas break.

It will mark the final time the Cats and Giants will face each other this regular season with the Cougars still looking for their first win over the defending champions in over a year.

Having dropped two straight in last season’s BCMML final, the third straight final loss to the Giants, the Cougars last notched a win over their arch-rivals in October 2011 as the Giants took both games last season in Prince George.  Earlier this season, the Cougars suffered their first two losses against the Giants, 4-3 and 6-5 at the Major Midget showcase in Langley.

And this weekend’s matchup once again features two of the top teams both offensively and defensively. The Cougars have scored more goals than any other team in the league with 118 through 20 games while allowing the second fewest against with 56. Only the Giants have allowed fewer goals, boasting an impressive 45 goals against through 22 games.

Entering this weekend, the Cougars sit six points back of the Giants in third place, two points behind the second place Okanagan Rockets who host the sixth place Valley West Hawks this weekend.

Puckdrop between the Cats and Giants Saturday is set for 1:00pm at CN Centre with Sunday’s final regular season matchup at 9:15am at the Prince George Coliseum.

Both games will be available live at
