December 17, 2012, Edmonton AB., (ISN) – The Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the renewal of women’s basketball coach Todd Warnick to a three year contract.
Warnick is currently in this third year at NAIT and his team is 4th in the ACAC at the midway point of the season with a 7-3 record and ranked 9th in the nation. The women’s basketball team’s record has steadily improved during Todd’s reign. Warnick posted a 5-15 record in his first year then lead the team to its second play-off appearance in team history with 9-11 record last season. Warnick was ecstatic at the news of being renewed.
“I feel honored and privileged to be given the opportunity to continue the work I started three years ago said Warnick. The support and leadership of the Athletics Department has been key to the growth of the program and has given me the ability to work towards the goal of building a nationally recognized Women’s Basketball program here at NAIT. I am grateful to Athletic Director Linda Henderson and Athletic Manager Gregg Meropoulis for their trust and support and I am excited for the future of the Women’s Basketball Program here at NAIT”.
Linda Henderson, NAIT director of athletics and recreation was thrilled to have Todd renew with the department.
“We are elated that Todd has committed to another three years with the NAIT women’s basketball program. His dedication, commitment and perseverance has been an integral part of his success. In Todd’s first three years, he has taken the program to the next level. Last season his women’s program went to playoffs for only the second time in the history of the Ooks program. This season his team has made it to the national rankings for the first time. We are very proud to have him as part of our coaching staff and look forward to sharing in the continued successes he has brought to NAIT.”
NAIT athletics manager Gregg Meropoulis echoed Linda’s enthusiasm. “Todd is a professional in everything aspect of his coaching duties. His work with the team and in the community has elevated the profile of both the women’s basketball program and NAIT Athletics.” The women’s basketball team resumes their season January 11th when they host Lakeland at 7pm.
