January 5, 2013, Victoria BC (ISN) – The Victoria Grizzlies and the Nanaimo Clippers faced off for the second time in a week tonight in front of 1,521 spectators at Bear Mountain Arena in Victoria. The first battle went to the Nanaimo Clippers but tonight it was the Victoria Grizzlies turn for the win.
The Grizzlies were the first to score when David Mazurek shot one past Nanaimo’s Derek Dun, followed by a power play goal from Leo Fitzgerald at 9:24, closing the period with the Grizzlies leading 2-0. Shots on goal after the first period were 22 for the Victoria Grizzlies and 2 for the Nanaimo Clippers.

The Grizzlies opened the second period when David Walchuk sank the puck into the back of Dun’s net followed up with another goal by Zach Urban shortly after when he burried the puck. The period ended with the Grizzlies still in the lead with a score of 4-0. Shots on net for the second period were 19 for the Grizzlies and 6 for the Clippers.

The chippy third period managed to get the Clippers on the board when Greg Fraser slipped a shorthanded goal past Brady Rouleau bringing the scoring to 4-1. At 17:41 Leo and Myles Fitzgerald assisted their brother Gerry in scoring their team’s fifth and final goal ending the period and the game at 5-1 in favor of the Grizzlies. Total shots on net: 53 for the Grizzlies and 16 for the Clippers.
