January 5, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – In a Friday night contest at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria Royals went up against the Tri-City Americans in the first half of a two-game home series.

The Royals started Patrik Polivka in net, while the Americans countered with Eric Comrie.

Jordan Fransoo opened the scoring for Victoria with his third goal of the season at 1:56. The middle frame saw both teams exchange scoring opportunities, but neither could find the back of the net. Alex Gogolev had the best chance of the period when he deked a Tri-City defenceman at the blueline before he had his shot denied by Comrie. As each goaltender stood their ground in the second, the Americans and Royals skated to a 1-1 draw after 40 minutes of play.

Austin Carroll threw a wrist shot on Comrie who made the initial save, but the puck bounced to his right. Hodges corralled the puck and slid into the slot before he picked the stick side corner low on the Tri-City netminder. The Americans tied the game up at 10:38 on a powerplay goal by Zachary Yuen. Yuen received a pass at the left point and launched a low slap shot that eluded Polivka glove side for his fourth of the season. The hard-hitting period continued, but neither team was able to find a go-ahead goal and overtime would be needed with a 2-2 stalemate after regulation.
