January 5, 2012, Victoria, BC (ISN) – A big save in the penalty kick session by Team White goaltender Teresa Williams proved to be the difference as Team White defeated Team Black 2-1 in the 5th Annual Lower Women’s Soccer Association Premier Division All-Star game Saturday at Westhills Stadium in Langford.

The scoring began early in the game as Team White’s Haley Burns would strike within the first two minutes, launching a shot that deflected off a Team Black defender and eluded Team Black goaltender Olivia deGoede.

Team Black would get that back in the 13th minute when Kelley Forbes would pounce on a loose ball up high and strike a beautiful, hard low shot past Team White’s Brittany Marier-Baumann to tie things up.

The teams would battle hard after that point and take the 1-1 tie to half-time.

In the second half, it was much of the same, with neither team breaking the deadlock and it would come down to penalty kicks.

In the penalty kick session, Team White would convert on all five of their tries, while Williams’ big save came on the first Team Black shot by Joni Phillips.
