January 6, 2013, Prince George, BC (ISN) – The Cariboo Cougars dropped their fourth home game in their last six with a 4-2 loss to the Valley West Hawks Sunday.  It was a good start for the Cats as Lien Miller-Jeannotte scored his second of the season just three minutes in for the early lead.

But the Hawks countered with a pair of first period goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second even as the Cougars outshot the visitors 10-3 in the opening frame.

Tyler Povelofskie scored his first MML goal in over a month ending a major drought with a wicked shot beating Luke Stripp to tie the game at two midway through the second.

But the Hawks countered yet again just three minutes later to re-take the lead.  The Cougars once again outshot the Hawks in the final frame but couldn’t muster any goals as the Hawks added one late in the period.

The Cougars record now stands at 19-7 as the Cats lose ground on both the Rockets and Giants who are now six and eight points ahead, respectively, after both swept their weekend series.

Jeremy Matte took the loss in net for the Cougars who outshot the Hawks 24-17.  The Cougars are home again next weekend as they host the North Island Silvertips Saturday and Sunday at CN Centre.
