January 6, 2012, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Headlined by VIJHL leading scorers Brody Coulter and Sam Rice of the Victoria Cougars and Ty Jones of the Saanich Braves, the VIJHL’s 2013 All-Star Classic is set to take place Sunday January 13th at Oceanside Place in Parksville.
Festivities will also include the All-Star Banquet, the 2013 VIJHL Prospects Game, a Skills Competition and the All-Star game itself.
In looking at the Team North and South rosters for the All-Star Classic, one can’t help but wonder if the game will be a runaway for the South.

Including Coulter, Rice and Jones, the South roster is populated with 10 of the top 20 scorers in the VIJHL compared to just 3 for the North.
Joining Coulter and Rice are Victoria teammates Mark Walton, Graham Zagrodney, Jake Stolz and goaltender Evan Roch, along with head coach Mark Van Helvoirt who will be behind the bench for the South.

The second place Braves are also well represented along with Jones, as forwards Josh Gray and Max Mois and defenseman Garrett Kemmler will make an appearance. Goaltender Tanner McGaw will also join Roch in the nets for the South.
The fledgling Westshore Wolves will be represented at the game by Captain Josh Bloomenthal, forward Travis Oickle, and defenseman Chris McDonald, while the Peninsula Panthers will be sending defenseman Cody Breitenstein, and forwards Cole Golka and Josh Adkins.

The South roster is rounded out by Kerry Park’s Alex Milligan, Kyle Peterson and Colton Burt.

For the North, the surprising Nanaimo Buccaneers, leading the North Division in their first year in the league, will be sending six players to the Classic, along with Head Coach Brad Knight who will be behind the bench.
Buccaneer players participating in the event include goaltender Cam Large, defenseman Derian Hamilton and Quentin McShane and forwards Jonathan Speer, Beau Blanaru, and Daniel Foglietta.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings, hosts of this year’s Jr. B Provincials, are sending five players to the classic, including Garrett Halls, Nicholas Tupper, Tyson Rennie, Michael Scobie and the VIJHL’s 5th leading scorer Mitch Ball.
Host Oceanside will boast five players including goaltender Kiefer Giroux, defenseman Joe Chase and forwards Cam McCarrick, Riel Gibson and Travis Flug.
Completing the line-up for the North are Campbell River Storm’s James Bryant, Jesse Spooner, Jordan Kamprath and Jon Brumwell.
2013 VIJHL Prospects Game
The 2013 VIJHL Prospects game also promises to be an exciting affair, as it will feature 5 of the VIJHL’s top 20 scorers, as well as an exciting mix of rookies and VIJHL veterans.
The South will be led Victoria’s Dane Feeney (4th in league scoring), Saanich’s Shawn McBride and Westshore’s Kyle Richter.

Joining Feeney will be teammates Nathan Chen-Mack, Matthew Ho and Robert Zadra. McBride will be joined by Saanich teammates Nick Guerra and Sam McMullen, while Richter will see teammates goaltender Alec Dillon, defenseman Tim Quinn and forward Spencer Preece accompany him to Parksville.
The Peninsula Panthers are sending goaltender Stephen Heslop, defenseman Spencer Loverock and forward Nathan Looysen, while the Kerry Park Islanders round out the South Prospect line-up with Braedon Cross and Jordan Coyne.

In the North, the Nanaimo Buccaneers once again lead the pack with five Prospect nominees including goaltender Riley Medves, defenseman Jake Calverley and forwards Will McNamara, Garrett Dunlop (6th in league scoring) and Corey Renwick.
Host Oceanside will be sending four prospects to the game including goaltender Alex Mastrodonato, defenseman Liam Peel and Ryan Buse and speedy forward Michael Fretz.

Comox Prospects include defenseman John Gosbee and Rylan Ball and forwards Sheldon Brett and Calvin Hadley.
The North’s Prospect line-up is rounded out by Campbell River’s Gibson Doney, Colin Blake and Mikey Markland.
The 2013 VIJHL All-Star festivities are being hosted by the Oceanside Generals and kick off Sunday January 13th with the All-Star banquet Banquet at 11:00 am at Parksville Community and Conference Centre. This will be followed by the Prospects Game at 1:30 pm and the All-Star Classic at 4:30 pm, both at Oceanside Place.
