January 10, 2013, (ISN) – University of Saskatchewan track & field athletes will suit up in their first competitive meet of 2013 in the Huskie-hosted Prairie Dual on Saturday.
The Prairie Dual features the Huskies and provincial rival the University of Regina Cougars. The coaches of both teams use the dual-format meet to evaluate the progress of the athletes, allowing for a strong travelling team for other competitive events during the season. Points will be awarded in each event and the school with the most points wins the dual.
“With a combination of new faces and veteran experience, both the men’s and women’s track & field teams will be competitive this season,” said head coach Joanne McTaggart. “The women will look to get the experience needed to defend their title, while the men will continue to be strong.
Returning to the team is CIS pole vault champion Lane Britnell, Canada West weight throw and shot put champion Karla Gabruch, CIS triple jump bronze medalist Cossy Nachilobe and three members of the record-setting 4X400-metre relay team of Katrin Ritchie, Morgan Sawatzky and Amanda Banks.
