January 16, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Cougars (35-1-0-2) entertain the Oceanside Generals (17-19-0-2) in one of three Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League games on tap Thursday night.

Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt, Rd., is 7:00 p.m.

Thursday, all eyes will be on Brody Coulter.

The Cougars captain is only two points away from hitting the century mark; a feat that has not been accomplished since Jason Jaques of the Campbell River Storm did it during the 2003/04 season.

Jaques finished with 104 points in 47 games that year.

Not only can Coulter exceed the 100 point barrier but he can become the all-time point leader in a single season. Coulter has nine games remaining after Thursday January 17.

It has been a while since the Cougars and Oceanside has tangled.

Victoria is 2-0-0-0 against the Generals this season which includes a 9-4 victory back on Oct. 4, 2012.

In that game, Garrett Brandsma, Mark Walton, and Wade Johnson scored twice; David Marshall, Jo Davie, and Coulter each added singles; and goaltender Michael Herringer stopped 24 shots for the win.

Ethan Larson lit the lamp twice in the loss while Matthew Biagioni and Michael Fretz scored once.

The Cougars will be without Brandsma who was signed by the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League at the Jan. 10 CJHL trade deadline.

Both teams enter Thursday night’s game on winning streaks.

Victoria has won its last two games following wins against the Saanich Braves and Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

Meanwhile, Oceanside has beaten the Nanaimo Buccaneers and Campbell River for a two game win streak.

Other league action has Nanaimo hosting Comox Valley while Campbell River visits the Kerry Park Islanders.
