January 19, 2913, Edmonton, AB – Getting an early lead and keeping the road team from climbing back into the game.  Third-year guard Kenneth Otieno continued his current hot streak, netting a game-high 15 points to go with six boards while fourth-year guard Tommy Watson added 13 points for the now 11-2 Bears.

The No.5 University of Alberta Golden Bears took a decisive 74-55 win over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack, Friday night at Saville Community Sports Centre.

The Bears staked themselves to a 10-0 lead in just over three minutes of play to start the game, and shot at 44% in the opening quarter to have a 20-10 lead after 10 minutes, showing great confidence stemming from their upset of No.4 Fraser Valley last Saturday.

Leading 32-19 at halftime, Alberta came out even stronger in the third, shooting at 67% inside the key and 57% from beyond the arc to post 30 more points and extend the lead to 23, despite Thompson Rivers having their best output of the night with 20 points in the quarter.

Otieno, who was averaging 20.2 points in his last six matches, put his stamp on the game when his finger-roll, fade-away layup in the dying seconds of the third quarter all but cemented the victory for the home team.

The WolfPack outscored the Bears 16-12 in the final quarter though, 12 of those points coming off the bench, but Alberta always kept enough distance on the scoreboard to prevent the visitors from gaining momentum.
