Scott Niedermayer Retirement Night Friday, January 25th

January 21, 2013, Kamloops, BC (ISN) – The Kamloops Blazers will be raising Scott Niedermayer’s no. 28 to the rafters this Friday, January 25th when they host the Prince Albert Raiders.

 

Niedermayer will be joined by his mom Carol, his brother Rob, his wife Lisa, and his four children Logan, Jackson, Joshua, and Luke.

Special dignitaries that will also be in attendance for the evening include Scott’s former General Manager in Anaheim Brian Burke, Scott’s former General Manager in Kamloops Bob Brown, WHL Commissioner Ron Robison, the last player to have his number retired by the Blazers and current co-owner, Mark Recchi, as well as former Jr. Oilers/Blazers Greg Hawgood (1983-88) and Greg Evtushevki (1982-86) who have also had their numbers retired by the Blazers.

All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative poster at the conclusion of the game from the special pre-game ceremony.

Niedermayer suited up for 156 games with the Blazers and had 47 goals, 143 assists and 190 career points. The defenseman was instrumental in the Blazers’ first Memorial Cup win in 1992.

The Cranbrook native went on to an incredible professional career in the National Hockey League. Niedermayer won four Stanley Cups over a 17-year career with New Jersey and Anaheim. He played 1263 NHL games recording 784 points.

Niedermayer is one of the most decorated hockey players of all-time. He is the only individual to win every major North American and international championship including the WHL Championship, Memorial Cup, World Junior Championship gold, Stanley Cup, IIHF World Championship gold, World Cup gold and Olympic gold.   

The Kamloops Blazers / Jr. Oilers franchise has five numbers that hang in the rafters including Greg Hawgood’s no. 4, Mark Recchi’s no. 8, Dean Evason’s no. 20, Greg Evtushevski’s no. 26, and Rob Brown’s no. 44.
