Ski ‘Birds dominate at first qualifying event of the season

Chelewah, WA – The UBC Thunderbirds alpine ski team took the field by storm at the first qualifying event of the USCSA Northwest Conference series this past weekend in Chelewah, Washington, setting the stage for what appears to be another spectacular season in the making for the ski ‘Birds.

Slaloms were held on both Saturday and Sunday and in Saturday’s race, the UBC men owned the podium, with Kelby Halbert (1:25:80), Michael Bisnaire (1:29:26) and Luke Terhart (1:31:72) snatching up gold, silver and bronze. Ladies teammates Samantha Bisnaire and Christina Donnelly placed second and third respectively behind the University of Washington’s Morgan Duffy who claimed top spot by half a second.

Sunday’s event was a near repeat of the previous day’s with the Men’s gold going to UBC skier Austin Taylor (1:28:70), ahead by nearly two seconds, and bronze claimed by Michael Bisnaire (1:31:90) who missed another silver by 7 one-hundredths. His sister, however, did claim a second silver, only 9 one-hundredths behind teammate Christina Donnelly who took the gold.
