January 27, 2013, Prince George, BC (ISN) – The Everett Silvertips saw a seven-game winning streak in Prince George snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Cougars in the second of back-to-back games between the clubs Saturday night at the CN Centre.
After suffering their first regulation loss in six-game span, the Silvertips will return home having earned five of a possible eight points during their four-game British Columbia road trip.
Everett was shut out for the seventh time this season in the contest as they were outshot 39-21 by the Cougars. The ‘Tips finished 0 for 5 on the powerplay while Prince George scored twice in five opportunities, the second of which came in the game’s closing seconds. Austin Lotz (12-15-1-1) stopped 35 shots in defeat, with Mac Engel (6-16-1-4) posting the 21-save shutout for the home team.
Neither team lit the lamp in the first 20 minutes, with both teams missing on a pair of powerplay chances. The Silvertips outshot the Cougars 9-8 in the first, but the game remained scoreless after one. Prince George changed that early in the second with a powerplay goal from Colin Jacobs, who banged a rebound past Austin Lotz at 3:15.
Everett nearly tied things up midway through the second frame as Dawson Leedahl had goaltender Mac Engel beaten on a shorthanded breakaway, but put a backhand shot off the post. The Cougars added to their lead later in the period just after a Silvertips powerplay when Rinalds Rosinskis stepped out of the penalty box and gave a breakaway pass to Jake Mykitiuk, who rifled a wrist shot into the top corner to give Prince George a 2-0 edge after two.
The Cougars made it 3-0 just over a minute into the third after Rosinskis’ high slapshot from the point was re-directed into the lower corner by Jacobs for his second goal of the night. Engel stopped good chances for Leedahl and Reid Petryk in the third to preserve his shutout and Zach Pochiro added another powerplay goal with 5.5 seconds remaining to finish off the 4-0 Prince George victory.
Their four-game B.C. Division road swing now complete, the Silvertips will return to Everett for three home games next week at Comcast Arena. The ‘Tips will take on the Portland Winterhawks Tuesday at 7:05 pm, the Tri-City Americans Friday at 7:35 pm and the Kamloops Blazers Saturday at 7:05 pm in downtown Everett.
