Vikes dropped by WolfPack as playoff race tightens

January 27, 2013, Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team dropped a big game in the playoff race to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Jan. 26. The WolfPack defeated the Vikes 73-63 and improve their record to 12-5, while the Vikes drop to 11-5.

For the fourth-straight game veteran Debbie Yeboah (Winnipeg, MB) led the Vikes with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while second-year Jenny Lewis (Fall River, NS) came off the bench to add 11 points, nine of which came from long-range buckets.

For the WolfPack, Jen Ju, impressed with four treys and 21 points, while Jorri Duxbury and Taiysa Worsfeld had 18 and 13 points, respectively. Former CIS All-Canadian Diane Schuetze had 13 rebounds in the win.

In the opening half, the Vikes were forced to contend with Thompson River’s Ju, who helped the WolfPack shoot 53 per cent from the field and 57 per cent on three-pointers. For the Vikes, Lewis was 3-4 on outside attempts as the WolfPack led 73-63 entering the break.

In the second half, Yeboah did well from the line to help the Vikes stay in it but Ju added two more treys for the home side and Duxbury went 8-10 from the line as the WolfPack took the game 73-63.

The Vikes will regroup to host the UNBC Timberwolves for a double header, Feb. 1-2, at McKinnon Gym. The game will be broadcast live at
