January 28, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The Edmonton Oil Kings showed off their number one ranked power play as they blew away the Hurricanes Sunday night at Rexall Place.
Oil Kings post a 7-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Michael St.Croix had a pair of power play goals while Henrik Samuelsson and Dylan Wruck scored a goal and three assists each to lead the Oil Kings to their fifth win in a row. The Edmonton power play went 4 for 9 on the night as they raised their league leading power play percentage to 28%.
Dysin Mayo scored his first WHL goal for the game winner with Trevor Cheek and Brandon Baddock scoring the other Edmonton goals. With the win, the Oil Kings improve their record to 35-11-2-3 on the season. Edmonton maintains a five point lead over the Calgary Hitmen for first place in the WHL Eastern Conference.
Oil Kings goaltender Laurent Brossoit had 22 saves and his first fighting major as he took on Lethbridge goaltender Ty Rimmer in a late game tilt. Both teams combined for 148 penalty minutes with the Edmonton penalty killing unit holding the Hurricanes to 0 for 4 with the man advantage.
Next up, the Oil Kings will welcome back one of their favorite events of the season on Wednesday morning. The 4th Annual CN Hockey Hooky will host students and young Oil Kings fans from all around the Edmonton area. The Oil Kings will play the Kootenay Ice at a special 11:30 a.m. start time as Rexall Place becomes home to the biggest field trip of the year. Over seven thousand kids are expected.
