January 29, 2013, Victoria, BC – The Victoria Highlanders FC annual general meeting took place yesterday, January 28, at 7 PM. The Gorge Soccer Association served as the venue for a night of soccer and community involvement in Victoria.
The meeting opened up with a message from President/Owner Alex Campbell in which he thanked season pass holders for their support and involvement with the team and also gave a brief review on the Highlanders success in the last year on helping players achieve their maximal soccer potential.
Highlanders General Manager Mark deFrias followed Alex with a brief explanation of his new role as the man at the Highlanders helm, a review on the changes that have come up in the last few months, and the expectations for the upcoming season.
The Coaching staff were next to take the podium, starting with Neil Sedgwick, Youth Development Coach, who explained the Highlanders model for the development of young players and how it helps all players achieve their full potential.
Steve Simonson (Men’s head coach) and Dave Dew ( Women’s head coach) followed with a brief report on their teams and the expectations for next year. The expectations are positive and high for both teams.
Finally, the evening closed with the unveiling of the Highlanders Supporters Society by Mark deFrias. This society will own 30% of the team and it will be represented by a 7 member board that will have a vote on several aspects of the team. This board will have two sitting members on the Highlanders Advisory Board, which is made up of Mark deFrias, Alex Campbell, two members from the business community, and the two aforementioned Supporters Society Board members.
The 2013 season could not have had a better start, seeing so many supporters at the AGM shows the love that Victoria has for soccer and the Victoria Highlanders.
