January 31, 2013, Prince George, BC (ISN) – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) would like to invite everyone to wear red on Friday night when the team recognizes Heart and Stroke month.
On February 1st, the players will be wearing their red jerseys to recognize and promote awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Ninety percent of Canadians have at least one risk factor and a false sense of security that everything will be okay. A reality check of our health shows that we don’t meet minimum requirements towards minimizing the risks of heart disease.
“The Prince George Spruce Kings know first-hand how quickly the game can change when the heart is involved,” said Spruce Kings Communications Director, Ron Gallo. “Our trainer suffered a heart attack on the bench during a game. We are fortunate that we were able to have him transported to Vancouver where he had the necessary surgery and was able to rejoin the team.”
Bill Baldridge will be the guest of honour on Friday night and will be recognized as the Spruce Kings official Heart Hero at the game. Baldridge suffered his heart attack in December of 2007 resulting in a triple bypass and a scary time for family, friends and the hockey team. Today Bill is healthy and very active with the Spruce Kings.
