Vikes compete in fourth annual Bison Classic

January 31, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – This week, several members of the University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s track and field teams are travelling to Winnipeg, Man. to compete in the fourth annual Bison Classic, Feb. 1-2, hosted by the University of Manitoba.

Leading the UVic men is Brendon Restall (Victoria, BC) as he takes on the men’s 600-m looking for a CIS qualifying time of 1:19.81. Making his 2013 indoor track season debut is local runner John Pratt (Victoria, BC), competing alongside teammate Restall in the 600-m. At last year’s event Pratt took first place with a time of 1:20.00 and will undoubtedly be looking for a repeat performance.

Racing the men’s 1500-m are sophomore runners Jackson Bocksnick (Lethbridge, AB) and Cole Peterson (Edmonton, Alta.) as well fourth year Josh Clouthier (Nanaimo, BC). Of the five UVic men in competition, four will be selected to race the 4×400-m relay.

On the women’s side, track specialist Rachel Francois (St. Albert, AB) is competing in her first 300-m of the season. Competing in the women’s 600-m are Vikes runners Jenica Moore (Victoria, BC), Halley Cote (Victoria, BC), Grace Annear (Hampton, NB), Kendra Pomfret (Roberts Creek, BC) and Francois. In last year’s Bison Classic 600-m Francois broke the UVic record with her time of 1:30.15.

Running the 1500-m is rookie Emma Bibault (High River, AB) and fourth year Maureen McCulligh (Campbell River, BC), both are hoping to beat the CIS standard of 4:28.25 in order to qualify for the championships in Edmonton, Alt., Mar. 7 – 9.


The Vikes men’s and women’s track teams are up against athletes from eight different universities as well as national team members and runners from various clubs across Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan. The meet kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 1 at the Max Bell Fieldhouse on the University of Manitoba campus.
