February 2, 2013, Prince George, BC (ISN) – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) are proud to announce the scholarship commitment of Kirk Thompson to the American International College and the Yellow Jackets men’s hockey team.
AIC is a NCAA Division I school located in Springfield, Massachusetts and plays out of the Atlantic Hockey Division.
Kirk Thompson, a three year veteran of the Prince George Spruce Kings, is a 20 year-old goaltender from Surrey, BC. Thompson is ranked as one of the best goaltenders in the BCHL and has taken over possession of a few career franchise records during his time in Prince George. For the third consecutive year he has seen his numbers improve and this season he is working with his best numbers (20 wins, 2.71 GAA and .918 SV%).
“The organization would like to congratulate Kirk on this tremendous achievement,” said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. “Kirk has been a Spruce King for three seasons and has worked very hard to attain this scholarship. Kirk is the type of person and player that we strive to have in our organization and is very deserving of this honor. AIC is getting a tremendous goaltender and a tremendous young man.”
“I just want to thank everyone that has supported me through my junior hockey career,” said Kirk Thompson after accepting the scholarship to AIC. “I want to thank Dave Dupas, Mike Hawes and everybody with the Spruce Kings for believing in me and making me a better person and player. Prince George has been absolutely wonderful to me and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to play here over the past three seasons.”
Thompson becomes the sixth player on the team’s active roster to secure a NCAA Division I scholarship. Mitch Eden, Coltyn Hansen, Jace Hennig, Kevin Guiltinan and Cameron Lawson are the other members of the team with a commitment to play college hockey.
