February 3, 2013, Saskatoon, SK (ISN) – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies track & field team returned with eight medals from the 2013 Bison Classic, hosted by the University of Manitoba on the weekend.
Taking a team of runners and jumpers, the Huskies won two golds, two silvers and four bronze medals.
Leading the way was reigning Canada West champion Cossy Nachilobe in triple jump with a gold medal leap of 13.76-metres. Morgan Sawatzky also brought home gold in the 300-metres clocking in at 39.65.
Veteran middle distance runner Amanda Banks secured silver in the 600-metres in a time of 1:31.62. Alex Fedyk also won a silver in the men’s 300-metres with a time of 34.71.
Winning bronze medals were Tye Buettner in the 1000-m (2:58.43), Gabrielle Edwards in the 1500-m (4:45.56), Ryan Graf in the 60-metre dash (6.91) and Kyle Donsberger in the 300-m (35.09).
As a team, the Huskies finished third among varsity teams at the meet, while te men finished fourth.
The Huskies will travel to Regina next weekend for the Queen City Indoor Games. It is the final meet on the schedule before the Canada West Championship.
