February 8, 2013, Kamloops, BC (ISN) – The Everett Silvertips suffered their second straight loss to the Kamloops Blazers Thursday night at the Interior Savings Centre, dropping a 6-0 setback in the final regular season meeting between the clubs.
The Silvertips will now look to rebound Friday with a home contest against the Calgary Hitmen.
The Silvertips trailed just 1-0 after one period, but never could solve Cole Cheveldave (26-12-1-1) to claw their way back into the contest. Daniel Cotton (9-12-0-2) made 29 saves in a losing cause as the Blazers outshot the ‘Tips 35-20, while Cheveldave posted his third shutout of the year. Everett was solid again on the penalty kill, successfully killing all three of their shorthanded situations. The Silvertips failed to convert their lone powerplay chance in the first period.
Unlike their last visit to Kamloops, the Silvertips jumped out to an early shot lead in this game – getting eight pucks to the net before the halfway point of the first period. The Blazers scored the game’s first goal at 5:48 however as Matt Needham stole the puck behind the Everett net and centered a pass to Cole Ully, who quickly finished off the play in front to give Kamloops a 1-0 edge after 20 minutes.
Ully increased that lead early in the second period after the Blazers intercepted an Everett clearing attempt and created an odd-man situation with Colin Smith and Tim Bozon setting up Ully’s second goal of the game. The Silvertips then had a number of close calls offensively but weren’t able to score as Logan Aasman was stopped in close by Cole Cheveldave and Ryan Harrison clanged a shot off the post. With only two minutes left in the period, Tyler Hansen stepped into the high slot and wristed a shot just inside the far post to put the Kamloops lead at 3-0 through two periods.

JC Lipon picked up his own rebound and scored early in the third period to make it 4-0 and keep the ‘Tips on their heels. Marek Hrbas and Dylan Willick added goals in the final stanza as well as Kamloops outshot Everett 13-4 on the way to finishing out the 6-0 win.
The ‘Tips will return to Everett for a quick turnaround against the team with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference as the Calgary Hitmen visit Comcast Arena Friday night at 7:35 pm. The game will feature a pre-game concert by longtime Silvertips national anthem singer Michael Sicoly, who will perform in the Ice Box with the southeast arena entrance opening at 6:00 pm. The Silvertips will then play host to the Kelowna Rockets Sunday afternoon at 4:05 on home ice.
