February 9, 2013, Langley, BC (ISN) – Trinity Western pole vaulter Jesse Phillips (Anaheim, Cali.) set a new Spartans school record Friday at the University of Washington’s Husky Classic as he cleared 4.50m at Dempsey Indoor.

Phillips clearance, which earned him a fifth place finish in Friday’s section, broke the previous TWU record of 4.40m, which was set by Jamie Sinclair (Glasgow, Scotland) at Alberta’s Golden Bear Open Jan. 19, 2013.

Also competing Friday for TWU was pole vaulter Ivonne Zuniga (Mexicali, Mexico), who cleared a season’s best 3.47m to finish 10th in Friday’s section. Her previous season’s best was 3.37m, which she cleared at the University of Washington Indoor Preview Jan. 12.

The Spartans track and field teams will continue to compete in the Husky Classic Saturday and then in the University of Washington Indoor Open Sunday.
