February 10, 2013, Swift Current, SK (ISN) – The defending WHL Champions end the weekend 11 points ahead of Calgary for top spot in the Eastern Conference. Edmonton is now six points back of the Portland Winterhawks in the race for the 2013 WHL regular season title.
The Oil Kings 11 game win streak came to an end on Sunday as they suffered a 3-1 loss to the Swift Current Broncos. With the loss, Edmonton’s overall record drops to 41-12-2-3 with 14 regular season games remaining.
Dylan Wruck notched the lone goal for the Oil Kings on the power play as Broncos goaltender Eetu Laurikainen posted an impressive 38 save performance. Wruck’s goal extended his current point scoring streak to ten games with five goals and 14 assists over that span.
Richard Nedomlel scored the game winner with a point shot on a Broncos second period power play. Adam Lowry had a pair of goals for Swift Current who never relinquished the lead despite being out-shot 39-27. Edmonton’s number one ranked power play was 1 for 4 on the night while Swift Current went 2 for 9 with the man advantage.
Oil Kings goaltender Laurent Brossoit suffered his first defeat in his last eight starts as his record fell to 26-7-2-3 on the season. LB posted back to back shutouts to begin the month of February and currently ranks third in the WHL with a 2.11 GAA.
The Oil Kings will finally return to Rexall Place on Sunday, February 17th to take on the Victoria Royals. It will be the final Family Fun Sunday of the season presented by Motts Fruitsations and the Edmonton Sun.
