February 10, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – On a Sunday morning at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the South Island Royals took on the Okanagan Rockets in game two of a two-game weekend set. Jesse Jenks took to the Royals crease, while Brenden Mills got the call for the Rockets.

Okanagan stormed to an early lead 40 seconds into the game off a shot from defenceman Michael McEachern. Rockets’ forward Justin Marreck burst into the offensive zone before he dropped a pass for McEachern in the left circle who fired a shot off the crossbar past Jenks. Okanagan would then pot two more goals less than a minute apart before the halfway mark of the period to hold a 3-0 lead. Branden Wagner would grab the first after he converted Brett Mennear’s pass on a 2-on-1 rush while Mennear grabbed his own after he pounced on a loose rebound in the crease. Alex Gran and Cortlan Procter would give the Rockets two more markers before the end of the frame as they led 5-0 after one period.

Markus Daly would take over for Jenks in the South Island net to start the second frame, but was unable to stop the onslaught as Liam Finlay collected Okanagan’s sixth, two minutes in. Wagner would add his second of the game before the end of the period as the Rockets were up 7-0 after 40 minutes.

The third period would see Cory Santoro score Okanagan’s eighth goal of the game, while Mills continued to stand tall in the Rockets crease as he thwarted an extended Royals 5-on-3 man advantage late in the game to preserve the shutout.

South Island lose 8-0 to Okanagan.
