February 12, 2013 Comox, BC (ISN) – Gymnasts from the island and the mainland gathered in Comox over the weekend to compete in the Chimo Gymnastics Club’s 13th annual “Pajama Party” Gymnastics Competition at the Comox Recreation Centre.

Looking more like a huge sleep-in, competitors wore their best pajamas and funkiest slippers to the meet to warm up in. When asked why bring a pajama party to a gymnastics competition, meet director Paulette Jalbert would simply state, “the reason is to build spirit.”   The pajama theme would seem to have the desired effect as both competitors and fans alike filled the Comox Recreation Centre with cheers of support for their respective teams and family members.

Approximately 200 competitors flipped, tumbled and vaulted their way through the 2-day meet hoping for a podium spot in their prospective skill levels, others were  hoping for a berth at the Provincial High school Gymnastics Championships.

Established in 1975, the Chimo Gymnastics Club hosted the gymnastic invitational competition.  This was the first island competition of 2013 for aspiring gymnasts on the Island. There are four other interclub meets scheduled throughout the year on Vancouver Island and will be held at various locations.
