February 15, 2013, Calgary, AB – The 2012-13 WHL regular season enters its third weekend of play in February with 23 games on the schedule for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Another four games are on tap for Monday, which is a holiday several Canadian provinces.
AROUND THE RINKS THIS WEEKEND…
In Brandon, MB, there will be plenty of future WHL hopefuls taking in the game on Friday night when the Wheat Kings host the Kootenay Ice. The Wheat Kings welcome 24 AAA Bantam Teams to Friday’s game. The teams are in Brandon competing in Hockey Manitoba’s Bantam AAA Showcase this weekend.
In Everett, WA, members of the Silvertips will be Waiting Tables next Wednesday for a good cause. ‘Tips players will be on hand at three El Paraiso Mexican Grill locations throughout the city, waiting tables as part of their “Tip a Tip” event in effort to raise funds to buy hockey gear for kids who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it.
In Kamloops, B.C., the Blazers welcome back a former fan favorite when Jordan DePape Returns to help with the team’s fundraising efforts in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Fans can participate in a Puck Toss in hopes of winning an autographed Jordan DePape jersey. DePape lives with Type 1 diabetes.
In Lethbridge, AB, the Hurricanes host their 8th annual Celebrity Dinner and Auction on Friday night. Former NHL star goaltender Curtis Joseph will be the special guest, and fans can bid on several amazing prizes with proceeds going to the Michael Maniago Foundation, the Kidney Foundation, the United Way and the Hurricanes’ Education Fund.
In Portland, OR, the Winterhawks host their ever-popular Great Airplane Toss on Saturday night when the Vancouver Giants come to town.
In Prince Albert, SK, members of the Raiders will spend Valentine’s Day Delivering Pizzas to help benefit the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
BLADES DONATE OVER $60,000 TO LOCAL CHARITIES…
The Saskatoon Blades celebrated the 25th anniversary of Credit Union Centre with a record crowd last Saturday.
The Blades announced that proceeds from the 50/50 draw on that historic night have been donated to a variety of local charities. Over $60,000 was generously donated between the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, Ronald McDonald House of Saskatchewan, and the Blades Educational Scholarship fund.

PATS & ALUMNI HELP RAISE OVER $24,000 TO HELP FORMER PATS STAR…
The Pats and their Alumni came together recently to support former Pats Captain, Kyle Deck.
Through the Knight Archer Bobblehead night and the Prairie Mobile Skills Competition/Alumni Game, the Regina Pats, Shooting Stars Foundation and Pats Alumni raised $24,500 dollars to help Kyle in his battle against kidney disease.

RECCHI & BLAZERS’ 1994 AND 1995 TEAMS INDUCTED TO BC HOCKEY HALL OF FAME…
The British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame announced that Kamloops native and Blazers owner Mark Recchi along with the 1993-94 and 1994-95 Memorial Cup winning Kamloops Blazers teams will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

FRIDAY NIGHT WHL HOCKEY ON SHAW AND ROOT SPORTS…
Mathew Dumba and the Red Deer Rebels welcome Brandon Magee and the Victoria Royals on Friday night.
Friday’s match-up between the Rebels and Royals can be seen live throughout western Canada on SHAW and SHAW Direct channel 299 (7:30pm MST).
The Rebels downed the visiting Prince George Cougars 4-1 on Wednesday night for their third victory over their last four games, and currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Red Deer is 16-9-2-1 at home this season. Dumba picked up three assists on Wednesday night, giving him eight points through five games in February.
The Royals suffered a 5-1 loss to the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook on Wednesday, snapping a five-game winning streak, and currently share fourth place in the Western Conference. The Royals boast a 20-0-0-2 record when taking a lead into the third period. Magee shares the team lead with 28 goals this season.
It’s the second meeting of the season between the Rebels and Royals. The Rebels edged the visiting Royals 3-2 in a shootout in the first meeting on December 14th in Red Deer.

KEY WEEKEND MATCH-UPS…
Kelowna Rockets vs. Kamloops Blazers
Friday, Feb. 15 @ Kamloops; Saturday, Feb. 16 @ Kelowna
Damon Severson and the Kelowna Rockets face Colin Smith and the Kamloops Blazers for a key home-and-home series this weekend between the two B.C. Division rivals.
The Rockets currently hold down top spot in the B.C. Division, and have a five-point lead over the Blazers in the standings. The Rockets have scored 103 more goals than they have allowed this season. Severson has 43 points this season, putting him in a tie for fourth among all WHL defencemen in scoring.
The Blazers are enjoying a five-game winning streak that has helped them narrow the gap on Kelowna to just five points for the division lead. The Blazers have scored 25 goals over their last five games. Smith ranks third among all WHL players in scoring with 90 points this season.
This weekend’s meetings mark the sixth and seventh encounters of the season between the Rockets and Blazers. The Blazers won three of the first five meetings, including both meetings between the teams in Kamloops.
