February 16, 2013, Everett, WA (ISN) – Kohl Bauml scored twice as the Everett Silvertips battled throughout the game before dropping a 6-3 decision to the Spokane Chiefs Friday night at Comcast Arena.

The Silvertips are back at home again on Saturday night looking for a crucial win over the Seattle Thunderbirds, who currently trail Everett by two points for seventh place in the Western Conference.

Ryan Harrison drew primary assists on both of Bauml’s goals as the Silvertips had a three-goal outing for the first time in nine games. Manraj Hayer notched the other tally for Everett, who continually fought back from two and three-goal deficits to keep the game close until a late empty-net score for Spokane.

Spokane opened the scoring in the first on a delayed penalty call as Cole Wedman’s shot from the blueline snuck through traffic and into the net. The Chiefs doubled the lead during a powerplay as Alessio Bertaggio jammed the puck under Cotton during a lengthy scramble in the goal crease. Everett got one back after Tyler Sandhu raced to a loose puck behind the net and found Ryan Harrison, who made a perfect pass to Kohl Bauml for a one-timer in front to make it a 2-1 game. With the Silvertips carrying the momentum in the final minute of the period, Spokane stretched the lead to 3-1 on Mitch Holmberg’s breakaway goal with 26 seconds left in the frame.

The teams exchanged goals in the second frame to leave the score at 4-2 heading into the final period. The Chiefs made it 4-1 with a shorthanded goal as Dylan Walchuk redirected a pass from Brendan Kichton past Daniel Cotton in net. The Silvertips capitalized on a 5-on-3 powerplay one minute later when a shot from Connor Cox was denied before Manraj Hayer rifled the rebound into the net to get Everett back within two. Spokane led 29-19 on the shot clock after two periods.

The Silvertips held the momentum to start the third period as they looked to make a comeback, but a defensive zone turnover resulted in Spokane’s fifth goal as Mikulas Rimmel fired a rocket inside the far post. Everett continued to fight back, making it a 5-3 game when Kohl Bauml angled a Ryan Harrison shot in past Williams from beside the net. The ‘Tips tried to pull within one by pulling the goaltender in the closing minutes, but Alessio Bertaggia hit the empty net for Spokane complete the 6-3 victory.

Shots were 39-27 in favor of the Chiefs after 60 minutes of play. Daniel Cotton (9-16-02) turned away 33 shots net for the Silvertips, while Eric Williams (28-16-2-0) made 24 saves for Spokane.
