February 16, 2013, Duncan, BC (ISN) – Dynamic is not just a part of the team name – it is a fitting word to describe the start of the 2012/2013 Competitive Season for the local Duncan Dynamics Gymnastics team.

Ten athletes from the local team attended the Omega Invitational Gymnastics Meet in Coquitlam on February 1st. The team brought home a collective 12 Gold, 12 Silver and 9 Bronze medals, as well as, an additional 16 placement ribbons (only the Top 10 to place receive ribbons).

The ten team members competed in 7 different age categories. Within those 7 categories, 3 girls came in 1st All Around, 3 came in 2nd All Around and 1 placed 3rd All Around. Marketing Director Karyne Bailey states “To have 7 of the 10 athletes on the podium at our first meet is very exciting. It shows the hard work these girls put in throughout the year. Many of these girls train 50 -52 weeks of the year and the results are showing consistent with their efforts.”

Our most senior girl, Micaylla Broadway, made the jump from P5 to National Open this season. Karyne Bailey clarifies, “Being in the National Open division means that Micaylla will now have the opportunity to compete against some the best, highest achieving athletes here in B.C.. Athletes like Shallon Olsen who is already competing Internationally. To have her achieve a bronze medal on her first competition at National Level is very exciting for our club and all our girls. We are so very proud of her.”

What do you call a dynamic team of gymnasts who come home with some serious hardware, a total of 5 medals each?

Meet the “Penta Threat Trio” – The trio not only stood on the podium for each individual event, they also received medals in the All-Around categories.

The Omega Gymnastics meet was the first meet of the season, bringing with it nerves and anticipation for all competitors.  In the midst of the pressure and excitement, 3 gymnasts out shined the competition.
