February 27, 2013, Kent, WA (ISN) – The Edmonton Oil Kings snapped a 3-game losing skid with a convincing 6 – 2 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds Tuesday.
It was a text book road game and a spread out attack that allowed Edmonton to lead the game wire-to-wire and post their 44th victory of the season. Dylan Wruck, T.J. Foster, Cody Corbett, Henrik Samuelsson, Michael St. Croix and Curtis Lazar all scored singles while Laurent Brossoit turned in a bounce back performance with 16 saves on the night. Samuelsson and St. Croix racked up 3-point nights and remain tied for the team lead with 77 points. That’s the Oil Kings third trip to Seattle in modern franchise history and second victory. Edmonton has a 4 – 2 record lifetime versus the T-Birds.
“At the end of the day it was a good solid effort from start to finish” said Head Coach Derek Laxdal “We talked about it before the game that we have to make sure we’re able to look in the mirror after the game and say we put a good effort in. I thought everybody did a really good job and it’s a big win for us.”
“We realized that we needed to change some parts of our game, we came out hard and I thought we really started to show what we’re made of in the third period.” said Coyotes first round draft pick Henrik Samuelsson “We’ve been giving up too many scoring chances and odd man rushes, so we tightened up the D-zone and the neutral zone and I thought that was key for us today.”
Edmonton’s overall record improves to 44-15-2-3 on the year and the U.S. Division road trip continues with the highly anticipated 2012 WHL Final rematch between the Oil Kings and Winterhawks from Portland Wednesday night. Both teams lead their respective conferences and are making final preparations for the 2013 WHL Playoffs. Game time from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland is at 8:00 p.m. Edmonton time.
