Rockets Blast Past T-Birds


February 28, 2013, Kelowna, BC (ISN) – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 Thursday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Seattle (21-35-7-1) is in seventh place in the Western Conference Playoff Standings with 50 points. They are one point ahead of the eighth place Everett Silvertips and six points ahead of the ninth place Prince George Cougars.

Next up for the T-Birds is a home-and-home series with the Tri-City Americans. They travel to Kennewick Friday for a game at 7:05pm. These two teams the meet Saturday at ShoWare Center at 7:05pm.

Dylan McKinlay scored unassisted 16 seconds into the first period to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead.

Seattle outshot Kelowna 7-5 in the first period.

Kelowna (45-15-3-1) took a 2-0 lead at 4:09 of the second period when Myles Bell scored. McKinlay and Colten Martin had the assists.

McKinlay scored a shorthanded goal at 9:43 of the second to extend the Rockets lead to 3-0. Rourke Chartier had the only assist on the goal.

Kelowna outshot Seattle 13-3 in the second period and led 18-10 in total shots after two periods.

Seth Swenson got the T-Birds on the board at 7:21 of the third period. Swenson beat Kelowna goalie Jordon Cooke from the right circle with a wrist shot. Defenseman Jerret Smith had an assist on the goal.

Tyson Baillie scored an empty-net goal at 19:31 of the third to seal the win for the Rockets. Chartier had an assist on the goal.

Seattle outshot Kelowna 8-6 in the third period but Kelowna finished with a 24-18 advantage in shots.

Seattle goalie Danny Mumaugh made 20 saves on 23 shots and his record is now 0-6-2-0.

Cooke stopped 17 of 18 shots and his record is now 32-13-2-1.

The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
