Huskies Win Eight Medals at CIS Championship


March 3, 2013, Saskatoon SK, (ISN) – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies won eight medals at the 2013 CIS Wrestling Championship hosted by Western University in London Ontario.

A quartet of fifth-year wrestlers led the medal count. Men’s team captain Ryan Myrfield (72-kg) captured his fourth straight medal on the national stage with a silver. Landon Squires (90-kg) and Koren Pitkethly (59-kg) each added their second straight silver medals, while Natasha Kramble (48-kg) added a bronze for the second straight year.

Kramble also won the Female Student-Athlete Community Service Award. Kramble is a Youth Group church leader, a member of Athletes in Action and active in several charities.

Hannah Franson (55-kg), Taylor Follensbee (72-kg), Samson Swan (130-kg) all won bronze medals. Dylan Bray (57-kg) captured his first CIS medal with a silver medal performance.

In the team standings, the Huskies finished fourth on the women’s side and fifth on the men’s side. The Brock University Badgers won the women’s team banner, while the University of Alberta Golden Bears won the men’s title.
