Oil Kings Pound the ‘Tips 7-1

March 2, 2013, Everett, WA – The Oil Kings bullied their way to a 7-1 drubbing of the Everett Silvertips on Friday. The win was the Oil Kings third in a row as they salvaged their U.S. Division road trip with a 3-2-0-0 record.

Edmonton’s overall record improved to 46-15-2-3 as they extended their lead to 12 points over the Hitmen and Blades for first in the WHL Eastern Conference.

Curtis Lazar got things started for the Oil Kings who never trailed at any point during the game. Lazar netted his team leading 35th of the season on the Oil Kings’ first power play of the game 5:42 into the first period. The Oil Kings high octane power play hit full throttle going 3 for 7 on the night.

Several Oil Kings posted big nights on the score sheet with Michael St.Croix leading the way with four assists. Griffin Reinhart had a goal and two assists and Trevor Cheek posted two goals and a single helper. Edmonton Oilers’ draft pick Martin Gernat scored a pair of goals including the game winner 1:09 into the second period.

Lazar would end his night with a “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” after taking exception to a hit from behind on Michael St.Croix. The blue chip NHL draft prospect was quick to stand up for a teammate as he took on 6’5, 200 pound Ben Betker. Cody Corbett notched the other Oil Kings goal as Edmonton out shot the Silvertips 52-27 on the night.

Goaltender Tristan Jarry made 26 saves to post his 16th win of the season. Jarry leads the WHL with a 1.66 GAA and a 0.933 save percentage.

Next up the Oil Kings will be back on the road for a three game trip through the East Division. It all kicks off Tuesday, March 6th against the Regina Pats. Puck drop is 6:00 p.m. Edmonton time. The Oil Kings have just two regular season home games left in 2012-13. On March 12th, Edmonton will welcome the Memorial Cup host Saskatoon Blades to the City of Champions. The Oil Kings will then wrap up the season with Dodge Fan Appreciation night on March 16th versus the Red Deer Rebels.
