March 4, 2013, Everett, WA (ISN) – After nearly 62 minutes of scoreless hockey Sunday afternoon at Pacific Coliseum, the Vancouver Giants netted the game’s only goal to beat the Everett Silvertips 1-0 as both teams played their third game in three days.

Gaining one point in the overtime defeat, the Silvertips did pull even with the Seattle Thunderbirds for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.

Austin Lotz (14-17-2-1) turned in another strong effort with 26 saves while blanking the Giants through regulation. The Silvertips hit multiple goal posts in the game, but mustered a season-low 13 shots on net while suffering their tenth shutout loss of the year.

The teams combined for 12 shots in the first period, with seven of them going to the Giants. Everett had the two best scoring chances of the period, but Josh Winquist hit the post on an odd-man rush and Kohl Bauml was stopped by Payton Lee on a half-breakaway to keep the game scoreless. Everett had two powerplays in the first 20 minutes and Vancouver had one.

Each team had another unsuccessful powerplay chance in the second frame as the 0-0 deadlock continued. Ty Mappin hit another post for Everett and Carter Popoff did the same for Vancouver, but the teams headed to the locker room still looking for the game’s first goal.

Only 11 pucks found their way on net in the third period, with the Giants hitting their second post as well as the goal line remained unbroken. In the overtime session, Blake Orban received a pass at the right point and sent a shot to the net that may have been deflected in by Alec Baer at 1:47 to provide the only scoring and end the game.

Payton Lee (12-19-1-0) earned his first career shutout as Vancouver outshot Everett 27-13. The Silvertips were scoreless on four powerplay chances, while the Giants were 0 for 3.
