March 4, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes clinched the BCIHL’s fourth and final playoff spot on the final night of the regular season, defeating Trinity Western University on home ice by a 7-2 score.
The Vikes entered play Saturday needing to out-point Eastern Washington in order to make the post season, and they made the result of the EWU-Selkirk College game unimportant by taking care of business against the Spartans.
The UVic power play did most of the damage in the win, accounting for five goals. Eli Wiebe and Shawn Mueller each scored with the man-advantage to give the hosts a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes, and Mueller struck for two more special teams goals in the second.
Jamie Kreller put Trinity Western within three early in the third period but UVic replied quickly off the stick of Adam Klein to put the game away.
The Vikes will now travel to Selkirk College for a best-of-three first round playoff series that begins on Friday, March 8th.
