March 6, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) –  Rugby Canada is pleased to announce that Canada’s Men’s U20 Team will take on the University of Victoria on March 6th, 7pm at Centennial Stadium.  Come on out tonight and support the players.

The game is part of a week-long training camp that Rugby Canada is hosting with 30 promising Under-20 players from across the country to continue preparation for the 2013 Junior World Rugby Trophy in Chile at the end of May, early June.

Lead by coaches Mike Shelley and Kieran Crowley, the training camp at Shawnigan Lake School and the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence, along with the game against the Vikes, is designed to test the players as a team.

“Throughout the week the players will see more information and more work. We have high expectations for each of our players. We want to test them mentally and put them under a bit more pressure in terms of fatigue and information,” said Shelley at the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence.

“It’s also about spending time together and being familiar with each other on-and-off the field,” said Shelley.

Entrance is by donation and all money raised at the gate will go to support the players heading to Chile. Wednesday’s game is a great opportunity to see some first class Rugby and help with the development of the national team as they prepare for the Junior World Rugby Trophy. The Uvic side, lead by head coach Doug Tate, will be a mixture of Vikes, Norsemen and other up-and-coming Uvic players and will be tough competition for Canada’s young side.

The end goal of this March camp is to select and prepare 26 players that will travel to Antofagosta, Chile and ultimately to work towards the starting 15 who will play against Tonga on May 25th.
