March 5, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team have wrapped up their three rounds of play at the Master’s College Spring Invitational in Canyon Country, Calif., to finish the tournament in seventh place.
California Lutheran were the tournament winners as they finished with a team score of 888, plus-24. Taking seventh place with a team score of 934 the Vikes concluded their three rounds at plus-70. On the second day of play the Vikes had a challenging 18 as they carded a collective score of 321, adding 14 strokes to yesterday’s second round score of 307.
The best finish for the Vikes came from rookie Jesse Teron (Red Deer, AB), falling just shy of top-20 placing as he carded a three-round score of 231 to tie for 21st in a field of 62 golfers, one stroke back of Master’s Nolan Sand at 20th with 230.
Fellow Vike Jamie Cartwright (Canmore, AB) ended three rounds of play tied for 25th with 232, plus-16 while teammate Sean Hay (Victoria, BC) posted a score of 236, plus-20, to tie for 29th.
First years Matthew Broughton (Victoria, BC) and Alex Cartwright (Canmore, AB) carded final rounds of 85 and 82, respectively, for a tournament scorecard of 241, plus-25 and tying for 36th.
Next up for the Vikes men’s golf team is the Battle at Primm, Mar. 20-27 in Primm, Nevada.
