March 11, 2013 Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Velox Valkyries, who began defense of their 2012 Harris Memorial Trophy with a loss to runner up Burnaby Lake RFC on the road last weekend, took on the Bayside Sharks in their home opener of the Women’s Adidas Preimership season on Saturday.
The Valkyries seemed to correct some commitment issues and came out in full force on Saturday downing the Sharks 35-0 and looking like they may take another run at the Championship.

With Marlene Donaldson and Sarah Levson taking on the coaching duties during the Fall season they posted a record of 8-1. Oli Scott has now taken the helm and seems to have the ladies focused and prepared for the season ahead.

Velox came out fired up and controlled the play for most of the game. Their defensive game was top notch throughout never allowing Bayside to gain any momentum. The Offensive side, while not as polished as last season, proved that it can put up the points when needed.

It won’t be an easy task repeating as Champions, but if the Valkyries continue to play like they did on Saturday they just may make their 3rd straight appearance in the Provincial Final and bring the trophy back to the Island.
