Samuelsson Signs Entry Level Contract

March 12, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to congratulate star forward Henrik Samuelsson on signing his NHL entry level contract with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Samuelsson is a native of Scottsdale, Arizona and was the Coyotes’ 1st round pick, 27th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft. The U.S. born prospect is currently third in the Oil Kings scoring race with 79 points and 32 goals in 67 games played. Samuelsson has proven to be an asset on both sides of the puck this season with a plus-29 rating and 3 shorthanded goals.

Last year, Samuelsson posted 7 goals, 16 assists and a +18 rating in 28 WHL regular season games. He scored 4 goals & 10 assists in Edmonton’s run to the WHL Championship and capped his year by leading the Oil Kings in scoring at the Memorial Cup and being named a tournament all-star.

“It’s really special for me being a former member of the Junior Coyotes program and now being signed by the NHL Coyotes. It’s a real honour.” said Samuelsson “It’s great to have the deal done now at this point of the season, it really lets me focus and get ready for the Oil Kings playoff run.”

Samuelsson will be in the lineup Tuesday as the Oil Kings welcome the Memorial Cup host Saskatoon Blades. The Oil Kings are riding a six-game winning streak and have clinched top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Blades have been on a tear and have surged to top spot in the East Division and second in the conference. The Blades recently accomplished an 18-game winning streak that went from January 27th to March 1st. Coincidentally, the Blades last loss before their long winning streak was to the Oil Kings back on January 23rd.

The Oil Kings have just two regular season home games left in 2012-13. Tuesday, March 12th against Saskatoon and Saturday, March 16th is Dodge Fan Appreciation Night against the Red Deer Rebels. The first two home playoff games for the Oil Kings are set for Friday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. while Game 2 goes Sunday, March 24th at 4:00 p.m. Playoff tickets are on sale now and are available at OILKINGS.CA, at the Rexall Place Box Office or at Ticketmaster outlets.
