March 14, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to congratulate alternate Captain Keegan Lowe on signing his NHL entry level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. Lowe was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round – 74th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
A four year WHL veteran, Lowe has been the backbone of the Oil Kings defense in 2012-13. He has only missed a combined 10 games in four seasons. He was one of two Oil Kings to play every game of the 2011-12 season. Lowe was originally drafted by his hometown Oil Kings in the 6th round of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. Since then, he has totaled the modern day franchise record for career penalty minutes with 470 and is a combined +71. This season he set a career high with 30 points and an Oil Kings record for goals scored by a defenseman with 15.
