March 15, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Royals hosted the Everett Silvertips for their final home game of the 2013 WHL regular season on Friday night. Jordan Fransoo and Joe Hicketts would each notch a pair each goal and Steven Hodges would add three assists as the Royals downed the Silvertips a 4-1.

The 1st period saw both teams get off to a slow start but a spectacular glove save by the Royals Coleman Vollrath late in the period seemed to spark his team. The Royals started to apply the pressure but were unable to beat Everett goaltender Austin Lotz as the period ended deadlocked at 0-0.

The Royals took a page from the Portland Winterhawks book and came out on fire in the 2nd period. They would open the scoring when a streaking Steven Hodges fired a shot wide the puck rebounded off the end board right to Jordan Fransoo, who had jumped up on the play, and he made no mistake in burying it behind Lotz. The Royals would add their 2nd of the game when Hodges again carried the puck into the Silvertips zone and found a streaking Hicketts who beat Lotz for his 4th of the season and what would become the game winner.

The Royals outshot Everett 12-3 in the period and went into the 2nd intermission with a 2-0 lead.

The Royals added to their lead in the 3rd when Fransoo carried the puck into the Silvertips end and snapped a shot glove side on Lotz for his 2nd of the night. Vollrath was doing a great job frustrating the Everett shooters but Joshua Winquist was able to gather a rebound and beat him just over half way through the period to end his shut out bid.

The Royals took a penalty with just over 2 minutes to play and Everett pulled Lotz to give them a 6-4 advantage, Victoria’s Joe Hicketts collected a rebound and fired it the length of the ice and into the empty net for his 2nd of the game ending the Silvertips comeback attempt.

The Royals set new franchise records for wins (34) and points (75) with the victory and will be looking to add to that on Saturday night when they close out the 2013 regular season on the road against the same Everett Silvertips.

Victoria will be back at home of sorts when they host the Kamloops Blazers in game 3 and 4 of the Western Conference Quarter Final at Bear Mountain Arena in Langford on March 26 and 28.
