Three Oil Kings Named Eastern Conference All-Stars

March 20, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The Edmonton Oil Kings are very proud to congratulate a number of players honoured today by the Western Hockey League.

Oil Kings leading scorer Michael St. Croix was selected as a first-team WHL Eastern Conference All-Star while alternate Captain Keegan Lowe and goaltender Laurent Brossoit were each selected as WHL Eastern Conference second-team All-Stars.

Dylan Wruck was selected as the Eastern Conference nominee for the Brad Hornung Trophy – awarded to the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year. Wruck established a new Oil Kings record with 63 assists in 2012-13 and led the entire WHL with 36 power play assists. The Saskatoon minor hockey product posted the impressive offensive numbers while only receiving 7 minor penalties the entire season.

Edmonton General Manager Bob Green has also been nominated for the Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as the Western Hockey Executive of the Year. Green won the award for the 2011-12 season.

In 2012-13, the Oil Kings posted new franchise highs with 51 wins and 108 points en route to their second straight regular season Eastern Conference title. The Canadian Hockey League announced today the team has been ranked fourth in the final CHL BMO Mastercard Top 10 rankings.

The Oil Kings closed out their season with Oil Kings Awards night this past Monday. Lowe was selected as the recipient of both the Oil Kings Top Defenseman and MVP awards. Other award winners included Edgars Kulda as the Oil Kings Top Rookie and Cole Benson as the Oil Kings Scholastic Player of the year.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Edgars Kulda

Edmonton will now open the 2013 WHL Playoffs at home on Friday as they host the Kootenay Ice. Game time is 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. Advance ticket prices in the first round of the playoffs will start at just $20.
