March 22, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Game one of the BCHL playoffs second round between the Victoria Grizzlies and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs began Friday night at the Bear Mountain Arena in Victoria.
The Grizzlies chose Brady Rouleau to mind the net and the Bulldogs chose Jay Deo. Deo was kept a little busier than Rouleau as the Grizzlies outshot the Bulldogs in all three periods.

The Grizzlies opened the scoring at 7:10 and it was Pearce Eviston who put his team on the board with a shorthanded goal which he tucked away into Deo’s net.

The next goal came at 12:15 for the Grizzlies, with Leo Fitzgerald who buried the puck in the back of the net, a power play goal and his 4th goal of the playoffs.

The Bulldogs struck back and at 15:17, Chase Van Allen scored an unassisted goal when his puck found its way into Rouleau’s net. The goal put his team on the board before the end of the period. The score after twenty minutes was 2-1 in favor of the Grizzlies. Shots on goal – Grizzlies: 12, Bulldogs: 6.

The sounds of bells, drums, and cheering fans filled the arena as the second period faceoff took place. Both teams wanted this game to be theirs, with only a single goal scored in favor of the home team, it was David Walchuk who opened and ended the period, raising the score now within two.
Walchuk scored at the 4:35 mark and there was no answer back from the Bulldogs. The score at the end of forty minutes was 3-1 Grizzlies. Shots during the second period for the Grizzlies – 14, Bulldogs: 7.

It was an exciting third period for the Bulldog fans as they cheered for their team, giving them the encouragement they needed to get the job done. With the fans support the Bulldogs would find the net, bringing them within one. Evan Tironese buried the puck in behind Rouleau at 12:16 firing up both his team and the fans. Although they still had time to even things out, Tironese’s goal was the sole goal of the period ending the game with a final score of 3-2 in favor of the Grizzlies.
