Story by Phil Meyer – JBAA
March 24, 2013, Vancouver, BC – On a firm field at Burnaby Lake Park, the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club ran their big bodies up the scrum side creases all day, wearing down the JBAA tacklers, and pulling away to a 42 to 19 win.
Scoring in the first half was mostly by foot as JBAA’s Sean White kicked three penalty goals while BLRC’s James Reekie countered with two. Four minutes from half, a converted try by Admir Cejvanovic, against the overall run of play, put Burnaby in front 13-9 going into the break.
Burnaby Lake stepped it up after the break, scoring twice, one converted, in the first 10 minutes to increase the lead to 25-9. The Bays battled back, led by Sean White, with a penalty goal in mid-half, followed by a Peter Gillespie try from a Blue Crush maul three minutes later cut the lead to BLRC 25 – JBAA 19.
Burnaby Lake continued to bash and smash up the seams, scoring three trys in the last 12 minutes to notch a well deserved win.
The Premier League is now in the home stretch, with the Bays (39 pts.), Capilanos (37), Burnaby Lake (33) and Merolomas (32) fighting for a semi-final home game.
The Bays last three games are at home against UBCOB Ravens on April 6th, away to Bayside on the April 13th and finishing at home against the UVic Vikes on April 20th.
