March 25, 2013, Victoria BC (ISN) – Lower Island schools and cyclists have until midnight Wednesday, March 27 to register for Good Friday’s BikeJam 2013 and this season’s the kick off to the School Bike League (SBL).
There are three easy steps:
1.The school must approve an adult supervisor for the team (a team can be 1 rider) for BikeJam and the SBL events; this can be a teacher, parent or community coach. Email the SBL Commissioner firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm participation with name of school and adult.
2.Go to www.schoolbikeleague.com and download a waiver, get a parent or guardia to sign it, and bring to the school’s team supervisor. Supervisors bring to BikeJam and league events.
3.Register for BikeJam 2013 online at www.schoolbikeleague.com
SBL kicks off on Friday, March 29 with BikeJam 2013, a full day of fun, prizes and cycling skill development from experts, led by top level coaches including Olympians Kurt Innes and Erinne Willock, National Downhill Mountain Bike Coach Geoff Pendrel and the Trek Pro-City Dual Slalom Team. They will introduce participants to the cycling disciplines of track, road, mountain bike, BMX, cyclocross, dual slalom, dirt jump, pump track, and para cycling and big air jumping.
“The School Bike League always focuses on the positive, fun aspects of competition, enabling kids to enjoy the racing experience and develop both their aptitude and self confidence,” says Eric Simonson, a teacher and Commissioner of the SBL. “BikeJam combines all of these qualities in one super fun event!”
SBL is a competitive league with individual and school standings. Any school can enter from the lower island (SD # 61,62,63) from grade 6 to 12. Registration details and more are @ http://www.schoolbikeleague.com/SBL/AFD_BikeJam.html. And while there is no “official” score keeping at BikeJam, all participants have a chance to earn points for their school toward the league championships, and valuable prizes such as Go Pro cameras.
It’s free! But you will need to be part of a school cycling team, and your team must be registered with the SBL.
What to bring:
•A regular mountain bike is suitable for most stations, but bring whatever you have; track bikes for the velodrome will be available for loan
•Water, preferably in a water bottle, and a lunch!
