Canadian Direct Insurance Premier League Results – Sat. April 6th:

UBCOB Ravens 39(+1) – 12 James Bay AA

STANDINGS

Burnaby Lake are currently sitting at 9-3 after Saturday’s victory, their fifth straight by 20 or more points. Another win next week against the UVic Vikes (5-6-1) would all but lock down the top seed and a home semifinal matchup on May 4th. The loss drops Capilano (8-4) to third place as they now trail James Bay (8-4) by two points in the standings.

Burnaby jumped out to a 34-8 lead at the half and through braces from Evan Thomas and Matt Alexander, saw off the visitors for the win. Burnaby is currently averaging 34 points per game as the league’s leading scorer James Reekie continues to excel at standoff.

Over on Vancouver Island, the UBCOB Ravens (3-7-2) pulled off a shock upset over top-ranked James Bay. The Ravens have been in a relegation battle with Bayside but after today’s bonus-point win are now sitting eight points clear of the Sharks in the standings.

Bayside (2-10) again proved difficult to contain at home, almost coming back to defeat the no. 5 Castaway Wanderers (5-6-1) but eventually fell 25-26 at South Surrey Athletic Park. Bayside finish off the regular season with two difficult matches, first hosting no.2 James Bay on April 13th and then will close out the season with a fixture against top-ranked Burnaby Lake.

A pivotal loss for no.4 Meraloma (6-6) sees the Castaway Wanderers and UVic Vikes (5-6-1) still in the hunt for a playoff berth. The Vikes were in fine form at Wallace Field and led by scrum half Phil Mack downed the visiting ‘Lomas 40-27.
