April 7, 2013, Boston, (ISN) – Canada’s Nexxice won the silver medal on Saturday at the ISU synchronized skating world championships.
Finland sneaked by the Burlington,Ont., based squad in the free skate to finish with 208.77 points. Nexxice, first after Friday’s short, was second at 208.25 and the U.S., third at 202.53.

”We can walk away our heads held high,” said Nexxice co-captain Amy Cebulak. ”Our focus was more performance-oriented than on results so that’s why we are not too disappointed about being so close to gold. We executed our plan and we are proud of our performances here.”
The 2009 world champions, Nexxice, also won silver last year, and placed fifth at the event in 2011 and 2010. They represent the Burlington Skating Club and are coached by Shelley Simonton Barnett and Anne Schelter.
”It’s a very different team than last year,” said Nexxice’s other co-captain Nichole Manahan. ”We had to work really hard to build up to this point.”
The other Nexxice team members were Shannon Aikman-Jones, Maria Albanese, Ellicia Beaudoin, Kelly Britten, Courtney Broadhurst, Alexandra Brown, Nicole Burt, Lee Chandler, Samantha Defino, Andreanne Gelinas, Mylene Gelinas, Victoria Kwan, Kristen Loritz, Taralyn MacBournie, Holly Peyton, Lillian Rieck, Kirsten Tietz and Gillian Tyler.
A second Canadian team, Les Suprêmes from St-Léonard, Que., posted the fifth best free program to climb from seventh to sixth overall. Les Suprêmes placed seventh at last year’s worlds and were sixth in their appearances in 2011, 2008, and 2007. They represent CPA Saint-Léonard and are coached by Marilyn Langlois, assisted by Pascal Denis and Amélie Brochu.
